12-1-16: GREAT FISHING... HAPPENING NOW!!!

DECEMBER means AWESOME REDFISH OPPORTUNITIES!

As the water begins to cool down, which is happening late this year, you can switch from piggy perch and croaker to live shrimp and cut baits. We are catching nice red fish fishing the grass with cut mullet. Live finger mullet have been producing nice stringers of Reds and Flounder fishing the flats and back lakes. Trout are still hitting best on Croaker and Perch for now. After another cold front live shrimp under a popping cork will be fantastic.

Surf fishing as of late has been outstanding. Full stringers of large slot Redfish are coming on Croaker, dead shrimp, and live finger mullet.

Free lining live baits will catch you some nice trout. Until next month, Rockport Fishing Trips wishes you tight lines and following seas.
Don't wait - call now: 361-790-3746

Get out on the water and have some fun this summer and until next month may you have "Following Seas and Tight Lines".

11-1-2016:  Hello Everybody, October is normally the cooling trend toward fall. What has happened? We are tying and setting record highs. It is cooler than July and August, but where is our fall weather? With that said the fish don't know any better or simply do not care. Trout are still eating piggy perch and croaker (if you can find them) with boat limits still being the normal day. Red fish are scarce in some bays and the flats are very inconsistent. One day a boat limit is caught and the next day two to three fish are caught. Basically for the month of October that is the story in the flats. Hopefully November will tune in weather wise and the red fish will fall into pattern. Regardless with the mild weather a day on the water is very nice and productive.

FLOUNDER GIGGING AT NIGHT IS FANTASTIC!  CALL: 361-790-3271-

12-1-2016: Hot, Hot, Hot! Where is our cool weather? November has been unusually warm, but that is a good thing for the flounder gigging. The flounder will stay in the bays with the water temperature staying warm. I have been out just a couple of times this month scouting to see where the flounder may be. I have come across lots of flounder hanging around the main pass going out to the Gulf. The gigging season will reopen December 1 and I have just a few weeknights available. I hope to be able to run late trips for my customers as well. If you want your chance to gig a trophy fish, this is the time to go! Please give me a call for some big flounder!
REMINDER: The flounder gigging season reopens December 1st. During the first two weeks of December the bag limit is dropped to 2 per person.
I would like to send a big shout-out to all my customers during the summer! "Thank You!" Hope to see you all again next year! Remember to book early!

12-1-2016: Awesome it is December already Christmas holidays is coming up so if you have any free time when you are down here in Rockport Texas come fishing with me and having a lot of fun catching and filling up your cooler with fish getting redfish on mullet, perch, crab, live and dead shrimp, artificial lures, and gulp throwing in cuts, shallow water back lakes, flats, channels edges, shell reefs, and pot holes. We are catching drum on live and dead shrimp, mullet, artificial lures, and gulp throwing in shallow pot holes mix with shell muddy bottoms, cuts, channels edges, shorelines and shell reefs. My anglers are killing the trout on live shrimp, artificial lures, and gulp throwing in edges of shell reefs, mixed shell muddy bottoms, channels, and deeper pot holes. Flounder I have my anglers throwing live and dead shrimp, mullet, artificial lures, and gulp pitching in the edges of cuts, shorelines, hard sandy mixed grassy bottoms and back lakes. Remember that the fishing is really good in the winter time because cold weather makes bait drop off in deeper water that means the fish will follow the bait and when the days are warmer the fish move to the shallow water and staying close to deeper water. Have a very awesome happy holidays and may your Christmas wishes come true.

12-1-2016: What a great passed couple of weeks! The fishing has been holding out great for this time of year. There have been very few cold fronts to keep water temps down so the fish have been very aggressive. I have had good limits of trout either wading or drifting with shrimp or your favorite soft plastics. Red fish have been good wading using shrimp or soft plastics and in the boat on cut mullet or crab. There has been good size reds in the surf on good current movement out at the bayou. I expect the big flounder will start moving back thru soon and should be able to catch a few out at the bayou also. I have had great duck hunts this November and I expect December and January to be no different. We have great number of birds here this year with redheads, pin tails, widgeon, gadwall and teal.. I even had a mallard a few days ago and a banded redhead . If your down for a cast and blast or just a fishing trip this December give me a shout I have a few good days still open. I also do gift certificates for that special person for Christmas or any special occasion. I hope you have a Happy Holidays.

12-1-2016 The high tides are finally beginning to fall out and we never did figure out why they were so high for so long. I've even had some of the other guides asked me to look back on my calendars and see if the high tides have been a norm during this time of year. To my knowledge they haven continued to be this high in the 33 years I've been guiding. As you know Capt. Aerich my grandson has taken over most of the trips for Redfish Charters, I may run a few during the week while he finishes up his senior year at school, then he will take over completely in May 2017. Capt. Aerich is a jack of all trades. He is also running a flounder boat for this winter season and doing quite well at it. He is also taking duck hunting trips and they have been killing lots of limits of ducks, in several different species. He is not only learned the bay systems that I have run, but has ventured out into the St. Charles Bay Area and Back Copano Area. I'm glad to see him venture out in other aspects of guiding. He has been catching quite a few reds and black drum in the sail boat channel on the South side of the Port Aransas Bridge. Allyn's Bite and Blind Pass have had reds schooling there. Most of the lakes off the flats that aren't usually accessible have had reds in them as well. With this North wind we have been having and looks like with several more northers coming in soon anchoring out and casting toward the banks has paid off as well. Mullet cut or live has been the choice baits along with perch. The drum have been feeding on fresh dead peeled back shrimp. Hope you all have a great holiday season and we at Redfish Charters would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Please go to FACEBOOK and look up Redfish Charters, Rockport, Texas and like our site, it normally has current pictures and specials posted on there.

12-1-2016: To all a happy thanksgiving. We really haven't had much of a winter yet. This has made for some very nice days on the water. There is still and abundant number of trout in a lot of areas. Many fishermen will be wading and drifting for them. Fish for them in 2 to 4 feet of water on live shrimp free lined or under a popping cork. As winter comes in to play throw artificial baits in a soft plastic with and 1/8 once jig head with a very slow retrieve on cooler days. You have to experiment with colors as the pattern will change often. The redfish bite will continue to be good. The redfish will be biting on a wide verity of baits. Shrimp dead and live, mullet, pin perch. Look for these fish in 1 to 3 feet of water. Artificial baits will also work good in the same depths. Black Drum will be good on dead or live shrimp in cuts and small channels in and around shell. This winter will see some high north winds that will push our water out making for lower tides. When this happens there will be some excellent fishing in certain areas. Don't forget the winter months. They can be some of the best days you can have on the water!!

12-1-2016: Cold fronts are moving through consistently at this time and the tides are moving the fish around. The last few weeks we have been fishing the Rockport area looking for reds. Having some good days while moving around quite a lot. Bait of choice has been fishing cut mullet when you can get it. Reds have been hanging around the mud and shell areas so be patient. If you don't get a bite going within 15 to 30 minutes, move to another area. Most of the reds we've been getting are on the lower slot size with a few oversize mixed in the box. Don't forget this is the time of the year where there is not a lot of live bait available. Dust off those top waters and gold spoons and give 'em a try. Top waters in the small pink Skitterwalk have been producing good numbers of both reds and trout while drifting and wading.

12-1-2016:  Another year almost gone! Wow, I canít believe itís nearly over. Overall 2016 has been a another good year for me and my clients. I was just looking at my books the other day on the record of fish Iíve taken over the year. Pretty much keeping up with what I normally do every year. The count was 1685 redfish, and 210 black drum. I was a bit surprised at my black drum count, but then after I thought about it, they did seem to show themselves a little later this year compared to previous years.  Itís really been a warm year, as far as early fall temps go, but as I write this report we are finally receiving a substantial front in the area tonight. Hopefully it puts our fish into our normal fall patterns. November was good to me, but itís looking like December could be a great month to fish this year with it cooling off later than normal. With this cold front, it should pick up our duck hunting also. The first split of duck season has really been warm, too warm in fact, but my duck hunts have been good to fair so far. Iím looking forward to that great success with full straps of ducks along with keeping my big box of fish. This front should really turn things around for me on the duck hunting side of things by pushing a lot more birds down into the area.
During our closed duck hunting split season I will be running some doe only meat hunts if you are interested. Hunting dates are Dec 4-8.  2 day hunt / 4 does / $600 and we supply lodging as well. Give me a call to reserve dates and other details.  With this being the last report of the 2016 year, I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy Prosperous New Year!
I still have a few dates yet to book in December to be full, and plenty of dates in January as well open if you would like to get in on some duck hunting and possibly some fishing.

Fish the bays and flats surrounding Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Rockport, and Corpus Christi with Capt. Ron.

Our area is home to some of the most fertile fishing grounds found on the Texas Gulf Coast.  Whether your desire is fishing for trophy speckled trout, monster bull redfish, wade fishing, fly fishing, or fishing with artificial lures, Capt. Ron can take care of everything for your next fishing trip.

12-1-16: Fishing has been pretty good. We're catching a few Reds on the flats. They are still a little smallish.Livee piggy perch has been the choice bait. Trout action has been a little bit slower. The water temperature is still warm for the fish to get into their fall patterns. Last time I checked it was about 72 degrees so it's getting there. I think that fishing the edge of some of the deeper channels like the icw might pay off for some trout and reds. Drift fishing using soft plastic lures would be a good way to pick up scattered reds and trout across the flats. The tide has been up pretty high so if it still is try fishing around the edges of some of the Islands located on the flats for Reds.

Beginners to Seasoned Anglers - Come on, Let's go!

12-1-16:  Itís getting to be my favorite time of year to catch fish. The winter months make for great fishing no matter what kind of trip you are looking for. Big trout, redfish, or an ice chest full of trout or Sheepshead are all possibilities during the winter. Many wade fishing enthusiasts love wading for that trophy trout while families with kids can build lasting memories as they catch their limit of Sheepshead without having to take a long boat ride. 12-1-2016: No gigging the month of November has got me prepping the boat for December and I'm ready to go!! The biggest flounder of the year are out there and they're catching them in various exit channels going out to the gulf. Cedar Bayou, Lydia Ann, Packery Channels and the Ship Channel are producing flounder! We've been using live cut mullet on a rod and reel plus mud minnows. These are my favorites for light line and small, multiple hooks work best. When you feel a bite, feed him line and don't set the hook. Wait a long time then just raise up and reel. Be sure and have a net handy - they shake the hook and get away. They are hard to hook. Well, good fishing to you my next report will be the December run!!! Happy Holidays to you and yours!!!
