4-16-2014: Hello Everybody! Weather is still the key
word. A strong northern blew in on April 13, 2014---really! Fishing
has been hit and miss. One day the reds are there and easy and the
next day (literally) they are gone. When everything- air and water
temp stabilize for a few days catching is good. When everything is
up and down I have to work really hard to find eating fish. They are
eating perch some days and then shad some days. Trout are here but
spotty and their reaction is the same as red fish. Hopefully, this
latest front will be the last major one of the year and things will
settle down. The weather has slowed bookings so most guides still
have scattered days open. A day on the water is still fun and
relaxing way to spend you time.

MORE BIG FISH GUIDE SERVICE
Fish the bays and flats surrounding Aransas Pass, Port Aransas,
Rockport, and Corpus Christi with Capt. Ron. Our area is home to some
of the most fertile fishing grounds found on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Whether your desire is fishing for trophy speckled trout, monster bull
redfish, wade fishing, fly fishing, or fishing with artificial lures,
Capt. Ron can take care of everything for your next fishing trip.
Fishing continues to be good for trout as more of them are getting
into the bay, The wind has been tough to work around though. We have
had lots of days with gusts in the mid to high 40's. I don't advise
going out on those days or if you have to then try redfishing with cut
perch fished on the bottom. Were getting some reds scattered around on
the flats. The tide this week has been lower than I like for this time
of year with not much level change through the day but were still
picking up some trout while drifting with live shrimp and popping
cork. I hope you can come down and get in on the action.

SPECIALIZING IN TROPHY
REDFISH, SPECKLED TROUT & BLACK DRUM
While I write this report, I can't help but think of these crazy
late fronts that we are still having. It isn't often the temps drop
into the 40's along our coastline in April. The fish are here and
we are seeing them everywhere in the flats, but getting them to eat
is a whole different ball game. You all know I am not one to tell
tall tales, so if I tell you we are catching or not, that's the
fact. With that, some days we seem to be the windshield and others
we are the bug.
When they decide to eat, we are collecting great numbers of redfish,
and the trout are coming around, but are scattered and moving.
Sitting with cut mullet, live perch, and live shrimp in the potholes
has been the best for bait, and drifting with gold spoons, Down
South Lures, and Gambler plastics seems to be the best for
artificials. Drum can be good when you spot a school in the flats.
Trout are also being caught while drifting the flats. Keep grinding
and eventually you will pick up enough to stretch your line. The
fishing should get better as the weather straighten out into warmer
weather. Give me a call and and I guarantee you I will give it my
all to put you on fish! Be safe out there my friends.

Winter just will not give in but lots of redfish have shown up
patrolling the flats even with the cooler water temperatures. I have
found most redfish or holding in shallow water less then 2 foot.
Weather they eat is another story had some awesome days with easy
limits and a few tough days this week after the last cold front.
Trout have been showing up also so mixed boxes has been common this
week. Schooling trout have been showing up on outside of
Ransom inland and also along Lydia ann channel. Soft plastics or
live shrimp has been my choice to get these trout in the boat. Most
have been keepers but not seeing as many schools as we usually see
this time of year. I'm sure it will turn on big time in the next
week or two. We have mostly been targeting Redfish starting
off they have been in just about every flat holding over shallow
grass. I would work the flat hard. Cut mullet, finger mullet,
Menhaden and sea lice has been what they're eating. I have been free
lining my baits so they stay out of the grass.

week. Take a child fishing make great memories for them to last a

4-16-2014: SOUTH TEXAS
WINDS...Howdy Readers! The conditions for flounder gigging
have been pretty poor lately. The wind has not let up much & that
makes the water dirty - easier for the flounder to hide! That just
means it makes my job that much harder, but my customers have still
been eager to go. Despite the conditions, we are still getting our
limits on flounder, just taking a little bit more time. I am fishing
out of Aransas Bay. The flounder are 2 pounds plus and 15-18 inches
long. If you find some baby shards, then yo should be able to find
the flounder. That's where I have been finding most of my fish. I
have seen very few sheepshead.

Hi everybody. Fishing has been great. I have been targeting redfish &
Black Drum and having great success. I took out 2 women on April 13th and
had a blast with them. We started off fishing for redfish. They were
referred to me by another client of mine. I explained to them that we were
using circle hooks and that all you had to do when the redfish takes the
bait is just real. The hook is designed to hook the fish in the corner of
the mouth without having to set the hook . It serves many purposes. 1) I
enjoy taking kids fishing and most can't set the hook but with this hook ;
they just have to reel . Watching that young fishermen or fisherwomen
fight that redfish is very rewarding. The other positive is that if the
Redfish or Black Drum is to small ; they can be released unharmed. We
caught both undersized redfish as well as keepers on their outing with me.
After fishing for reds we turned our attention to hooking up on a few
Black Drum before heading to the marina.

who named it "fishing" and not catching was very smart. This past
week it's been one day wonderful next day very few. The ones I

warmed up and the fish are digging it. Spring is in full bloom on the

the stage out in Aransas bay, around the reefs and deep Channels. Live
shrimp, sea lice and cut menhaden have been the baits of choice. The sun

A good week of fishing, some days are slower than others but overall
a wonderful week. The tides are almost back too normal and the water
temperatures are getting better. The fish i have been finding are in
the shallow water in the potholes of the flats. Also been finding
some nice trout running with the reds had a trip Sunday with 2
ladies and caught a nice very nice 29inch trout, in about 2 foot of
water. The best bait i have found is mud minnows on a Carolina rig.

4-16-2014: Hello To Everyone,
Wow!!! Has the wind been howling, or what? Do not let it discourage
you from wetting a line though. Just ask the gentlemen in the photo
accompanying this Fishing Report. On that particular day the wind
was 30 to 40mph and the bays were like chocolate milk. We basically
fished the areas where the islands were helping to block the gusts.
Live shrimp was not working, so I switched to cut mullet. It took a
while, but my client wound up with a 30 3/4 inch Red and 3 more Reds
up to 27 7/8 inches. For someone who had never caught a spotted tail
this was one heck of a memory for him. Please contact us and "lets

Redfishing was really good during spring
break. Limits were fairly easy to come by except for the two days
after the cold front we received on Wednesday of that week. After
spring break I have not been booked every day like I was, but on the
days I have been fishing its been a little harder to catch limits.
We are still getting nearly all of them with having our water level
come up quite a bit (that being normal levels for this time of year)
in which I think scattered the fish for a little while. Once the
fish "settle" to these new water levels I think I will be smashing
them once again
