4-1-2017:  All I can say is wow fishing has been on fire. The much warmer spring has brought the water temperature up over the 70 degree mark early this year and the fish are aggressive .I had a tremendous spring break with great fishing all week and thru out the month of March . The winds have been a little strong on some days but has not kept the fish from biting even in dirty water. I have had limits of trout or near limits everyday while drifting or wading with live shrimp or soft plastics. The redfish bite has been great on shad, cut mullet, shrimp and cut crab. Also wading with plastic has produced some good numbers too. There have been some big over sized reds mixed in the box at 30 plus. Black drum are being caught over shell on live and dead shrimp. As we roll into April I would believe the conditions will only get better. We will be fighting are normal spring wind it looks like but above average temps. The trout and reds should start showing up in the bayou and that makes for a lot of fun with artificial baits. I would be more than happy to take you fishing it has been a lot of fun as of late. If its that family outing weekend away or a mid week get away give me call and we can get you booked. I can make your dream day on the water happen!

4-1-2017:  Hey There. It is time to fish. You should quit letting all that work get in the way of your fun. April is here and that means big trout. Get yourself some live shrimp and a popping cork and get on the water. If you prefer fishing artificial soft plastics are working very well. Try drifting or wading the flats and reefs. Donít be discouraged by off colored water. With the right bait and the right presentation the fish will still bite. We have been very successful as of late drifting in three feet of water adjacent to shell reefs for nice limits of trout. If it is a little windy for your drift ease a drift sock over the side to slow the boat down. If you donít have one stop by Rockport Tackle Town (www.rockporttackletown.com) and pick one up. They have them for every size of boat as well as anything else you need to make your fishing trip a success. Once you catch a nice fish set an anchor an fish that area until the fish are played out and then resume your drift. The redfish have been excellent. Cut crab, and fresh mullet have been the key to slot reds. You can and will catch lots of undersize reds on live shrimp. Captain Lori has been catching those perfect size for eating, Black Drum, on fresh dead shrimp. To entice the drum try peeling them. Drum just cant resist a fresh dead peeled shrimp. The drum bite has been excellent fishing mud next to oyster shell. If you wont to have your poles bent by large Gafftop you can catch them on live shrimp. There are plenty of five pound Gafftop along the deeper parts of Panther Reef in San Antonio Bay.
We are bringing in full stringers of large Redfish, nice-size Trout and the Black Drum are showing-up now!!!

4-1-2017: Spring is here and the temperatures we have all been waiting for are here! But also that one fish that will peel line right off of your reel in a hurry to get away. The redfish is one of the most exciting fights that you will have in shallow water. With the fast speed and weight they cut through the water and send your reel into a crazy and craving-ful scream. With the tide becoming to normal depths the water temperatures are now warming up. The redfish want warm water, if the night is cold or cooler and they get cold you can bet that the reds are gonna seeking shallow water to warm up for the day. When the water starts warming up the redfish bite will change tremendously from the winter bite. The winter bite for redfish is a slow subtle bite they don't really want to move fast but just move off with it. Now that the water is warming up the redfish will become more " feisty " as they will grab the bait and run pulling drag from the reel. The bait of choice right now are shad and cut perch. Shad are loved by all species of the fish in our waters especially perch. When you are fishing with shad you have to constantly change your baits out but don't get discouraged those little perch that are eating away at your bait will soon be eaten by a big red. The redfish are in the shallows right now and when I mean shallow I'm talking knee deep water to maybe waist deep water. Some areas we have been fishing for the redfish are in South Bay, Estes Flats, Mudd Island, and Allyn's Bite. When targeting these areas you want to look for sand holes and or " mud boils. " When you see a mud boil that usually mean a redfish is taking off in a hurry and mud kicks up off the bottom. When you go to fish these " sand holes " anchor up around 30 feet away from the hole and cast your lines in and wait for them to bite. Hope this gives everyone that is reading this a little insight of what to look for and what to use. Also hope to see you out on the water, looks like I have to run have to get a line in the water! The redfish are biting. Good catching to you from Capt. Aerich Oliver

4-1-2017:  Tides are still fluctuating back and forth and moving the fish around. Sometimes that makes for a tough day but if you move around a lot you'll find where the reds are hanging. Currently the best bait to use is either cut mullet or live fingers. Shad is starting to become available but the reds haven't started eating it very well yet.  We've been spending some time in Nueces Bay lately and it has been producing some trout. Use shrimp under a popping cork and target the wind-side of the reefs. You should be able to get some keepers after weeding out the smaller ones.  Croaker is starting to show up at a few bait stands in limited amounts. They are still a little small in my opinion but should be ready in another couple of weeks.

3-1-2017: Fishing has been pretty good between the windy days and the cold fronts. (This time of year that is pretty typical. There are more days that are un-fishable than there are fishable days . We are drifting the flats with live shrimp and popping corks.) But things are turning around now and we are finding some scattered reds and smallish trout. We are still a month to six weeks away from finding the bigger spawning trout. Anchor fishing on the flats has been pretty good for redfish. Cut mullet has been the better bait. There are some black drum being caught along Corpus Christi bayou, Yucca Channel, and South Bay. Shrimp threaded on a 1/4 ounce jig head fished on the bottom is a good way for catching black drum. You can pole your boat along these areas and can usually see schools of black drum working in the shallow water. The water temperature has been higher than normal for this time of year so there should be some trout around Long Reef, Scotch Tom Reef and Jaybird Reef in Aransas Bay. Soft plastic lures fished over the oyster shells is a good producer for trout.

FLOUNDER GIGGING AT NIGHT IS FANTASTIC!  CALL: 361-790-3271-

4-1-2017: Howdy folks!  We had a pretty good spring break with lots of tourists that came to visit the Aransas Pass/Port Aransas area. We were fortunate that the weather paid off with warmer than usual temperatures and sunny days. Usually the spring breakers have to contend with cold, dreary days out on the beaches in Port Aransas and Rockport, but not this year. The flounder gigging remains good around the Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Rockport areas, and will just keep on getting better as the summer progresses. With the strong winds and normal tide levels, the gigging has been a little tough up on the flats, but we have still been able to pull limits out of there. Some nights we have been hitting 5 to 6 different places just to get a 20 fish limit. With our spring tides right around the corner, we will have another push of flounder come through the Port Aransas jetties making for some easy pickings up on the flats. I have been finding most of my flounder on hard sand bottoms in about 1.5 foot of water. It has been taking around 3 hours to get a 20 fish limit. The size of the flounder have been unusually bigger for this time of year ranging anywhere from 15 to 20 inches. The black drum have disappeared up on the shallow flats, falling off into deeper water at night. We have been only finding a few sheepshead at night as well. Things are shaping up to be a stellar summer for flounder gigging here on the coast. When you come down to visit our lovely beaches in Rockport, Port Aransas, and the Corpus Christi areas for your summer vacation, give me a call and let's go make some memories. I stand behind my motto - we won't SURRENDER 'til we have our limit!

If you can get fingerling mullet free line them. I prefer to drift when we are using popping corks because of the amount of water you can cover, but fish them slow just the same. 4-1-2017: In April most of the cool fronts that keep the water temperatures from rising won't make it down so the water gets hotter making the air temperature hot so those muggy hot days will return soon but the only thing that helps is the strong southeast sea breeze that will keep it filling decent and with warmer conditions croaker will becoming out at the bait stands so look out trout here we come throwing into nice sand pockets with moss grass around my angers will be throwing croaker, artificial lures, and gulp. The redfish are hammering the anger shrimp, mullet, artificial lures and gulp throwing on edges of shell reef, muddy bottoms, shoreline, and sand bars. Drum are jumping out of the water after my anglers shrimp and gulp throwing on shell reef edges, sand bars, and edges of shoreline. Flopping flounder are flopping after my anglers shrimp, mullet, artificial lures, and gulp tossing into sand bars, edges of cut, and edges of shell reefs. So come get you some trout, redfish, flounder, and drum awesome action lip ripping, line pulling, pole binders, fish jumping and flopping fun filling up your cooler with these good tasting fish enjoying the nice view with all kinds of wildlife to see call me so you can book a trip of a lifetime 361-774-9304

4-1-2017:  Hello Everybody, The weather is heading in a warming trend. Typical for this time of year. Trout are pretty much everywhere eating artificial and live shrimp. boat limits are common if you choose to pursue them. Black Drum are in a few places and some days boat limits are the norm and them some days for various reasons a limit is short. Red fish are pretty much everywhere in the flats eating shad, mullet, sea lice and Pin Perch. Some days early limits are common and then some days it is an afternoon bite. The common denominator in all species is you will have to work for them a lot of days. time spent on the water is very nice and the month of April, with warming trends, will only get nicer. I would encourage everyone to try really hard to spend some time on the water in April. I think you will be glad you did!

4-1-2017  The water temp has finally got back over the 73 degree mark making for some SPECTACULAR Spring Time flounder GIGGIN right now!! What happens when the water temp gets back up over the 73 degree mark is that the big female flounder that made their migration offshore to spawn are now coming back into our bay systems. This is also known as the "Spring Flounder Run". We have been giggin a bunch of bigger female flounder in the 3-5lb range this week as well as the regular size resident male fish. I anticipate a very STRONG influx of BIG female flounder to flood back into our bays in the upcoming weeks. This will make for some awesome flounder GIGGIN from now all the way through October!! It is going to be a remarkable Spring Time as well as Summer for flounder GIGGIN. Mark my words. We are finding the flounder concentrated in areas around flats in hard sand bottoms with a little bit of shell. We are also finding them in deeper water on incoming tides over grass and sand pot holes. Not only are we giggin BIG flounder, we are also giggin Sheepshead and Drum as well. The month of April can be pretty windy at times and we are seeing some pretty high winds right now. Don't be discouraged of the wind, as it will die down eventually. Even when the wind is blowing we can still find the nice clear water in protected areas near spoils. The calm dog days of Summer will be upon us in no time!! Trout and Redfish daytime fishing trips have been very good as well. We have been bringing good numbers of trout, reds & drum to the dock with some sheepshead in the mix as well.
