GIGGING AT NIGHT IS FANTASTIC!
Readers! Well, we finally got our first little South Texas
cool front, on Friday the 13th. It is a nice change not breaking a
sweat while filleting my customers' fish at the end of the night.
There is nothing better than being out on the water at night and
smelling the fresh north breeze. This past week, I had some
hard times finding flounder to gig with a slow incoming tide and
strong southeast winds - it made for some tough gigging. A couple of
trips, we missed our limits by a few fish, but we still ended the
night with a box of nice fish. I had the Williams family of 5 on the
boat last night. With winds out of the north 15-20 mph and lightning
all around us, it started off slow. We were finding dirty water
every spot we tried. Once the tide started coming in hard, the water
cleared up real fast. With the high waters, I found flounder 10-20
feet off the banks, laying on hard sand. We gigged our 25 flounder
limit in 6 hours, ranging from 16-20 inches. On average, we are
gigging 3-5 sheepshead and drum per night.

weather can't decide what it's going to do. The reds are as confused
as everyone else is. We did manage to catch lots of undersized reds
and a few keepers along with them. Catching is as fun as keeping
them sometimes. Even caught some nice black drum this week. The
sting rays are schooling up and are good ratting also. All of the
fish and rays I have caught this week have been on cut mullet and
cut skip jacks.

Water has cooled down, days have cooled and fishing for redfish and
night gigging is hot right now. Limits have been common this week
although the fish have made us work for them we have been gigging
some nice flounder and catching nice redfish. Flounder have started
to stage to prepare for their travel later in the year, we have been
gigging multiple fish in the same area usually in sloughs and
drains. Average size of flounder has been 18" as the run nears we
will start seeing some larger fish. Remember flounder gigging is
closed for the month of November so October is filling up fast, I
have several days open in December for night gigging available.
On our day trips I have found redfish have been holding very shallow
less than 2 foot water depths. Bait of choice has been cut bait and
live perch if anchor fishing, or soft plastics with natural color
artificials. We are still running into some schooling redfish and
black drum in 3-4 foot depths adjacent to shallow water I am sight
casting these with jumbo dead shrimp. Trout have been tougher but
catching some along Lydia Ann channel but my focus has been redfish
the last few weeks.

Limits of reds have been the norm for me last few days on the water

schools instead of the 50-100 fish schools. Once the water cools off

Hello everybody . Just fished the Mathis party ( September 12 ) . I
located 3 separate schools of redfish the day before and I went straight
there with my clients . The water was probably a foot or less and when I
arrived at the location the schools started pushing water and giving their
location away. We drifted a little farther up and I power poled down and
cast our bait out . Wasn't long before we had 2 on at the same time. Both
reds were respectfully 25 inches. We had to move down a couple times to
stay in reach of the schools . We finished up our trip with 10 redfish
between 25 & 27 1/2 inches and one oversized brute. If you would like to

SPECIALIZING IN TROPHY
REDFISH, SPECKLED TROUT & BLACK DRUM
the dock this morning we were filled with anticipation. Redfish have
been settling back into a pattern and are schooling up along the
Lydia Ann Channel, and we were heading that way. As we throttled
back, they made themselves evident with a surge of water 20 yards
wide. Mornings like these are what makes you get out of bed and give
it your all. Wading with cut mullet, live finger mullet,
and live piggy perch have been the best producers. Top waters and
flukes have added their share on a empty stringer as well. Boat
fishing can work, but wading has been the e ticket. Trout are
crazy in the flats, but you will catch 15 short ones to 1 small slot
sized. Piggy perch and top waters worked while drifting will bring a
few to the boat. Black drum have been in and out. Some days
there will be 400+ swimming on the surface along the deeper edges,
then the next nothing. And even if you find them, they may not want
to eat. Be careful out there, the tides are low and we have
seen several boats that have ran aground and there have been some
with injuries. If you don't already have a tow service, it's not a
bad idea to join Sea Tow or US Towboat. Both are well worth the fee
of under $200 a year. One last tidbit. Up and down the coast
(and all over the state really) the thieves have been working. If
you leave anything of value in your boat or the back of your truck
such as rods, yeti coolers, tackle, etc. overnight, it may not be
there in the morning. Pull it out and lock it up. Until next time,
light winds and tight lines! Cooler temps make fishing super
enjoyable. Here comes the Fall so give me a call!

Hello To Everyone! There has been quite a cold front come
through and you know what that means???...Fall is on its way!!!
Cooler weather means to me duck, dove, quail, deer hunting and
"Prime Time Red Fish Time". I have quite frequently talked to
individuals that have never heard of the Red Fish raising up the
water , or the Red Fish "RUN". Well, during the Fall is when you'll
be able to. Many times we see schools of the "spotted tails" moving
along feeding and fattening up for the winter...literally raising
the water up like torpedoes underneath the surface. We free line
Piggies in the pot holes and I instruct the clients to hold on
because more times than not big hungry fish are there to strike it.
Black Drum are also available and can be caught on shrimp. Please
don't forget we now have an Airboat and we'll be offering rides,
fishing, and hunting adventures.

Reds and Blacks.

- Hey There Flounder Gigging and Bay Fishing Enthusiasts!
Hello South Texas
giggers and anglers,
Fishing the last few weeks has been fair to good. There have been
some nice size flounder in the area I generally fish. Most nights
we were limiting-out by 11:00 pm, but there just hasn't been any
sheepshead or drum - at least not where we have been fishing. Of
course this will change after the next cold front and as the water
cools off, we'll have those cool, fall nights and then flounder
fishing will be on big time. Fall is my favorite time to fish for
those big flounder...that will start to feed for wintertime!
THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO GO, so get ready and come get some.

As the summer comes to a
close and the kiddos are getting ready to head back to school ,
donít give up on the fishing as it seems to be getting better. Well
folks, the Redfishing seems to be on the up rise. We have been
catching some tournament size Redfish. We have been targeting the
redfish shallow with topwater lures and bait early in the morning,
and once the sun comes up we have still been sightcasting to schools
of black drum and redfish on the flats. I also specialize in Sight
Casting or Sight Fishing for Redfish it is an art that only one can
appreciate when being successfully taught. Once you catch your first
"sightcasted" fish you will really appreciate the thrill of feeding
the fish and watching the eat. Iím going to be honest with you in
all aspects. My number one must in sight fishing/casting is to buy
the best pair of polarized sunglasses you budget will allow. My
personal preference is my Costa Del Mar 580 glass lenses in amber
with the green mirror. (hammerhead model) Be sure you choose a frame
that lets the minimal amount of outside light in as possible meaning
buy the right frame to fit your face. Not all people will have the
same comforts in frame. Some of the other things that are very
important in sight fishing is being able to tell which way the fish
is facing you want your lure to pass in front of him/her vs. behind.
Being able to cast small lures accurately to fish will greatly
improve your success rate for catching fish by sight. Itís not
always about filling the box with fish! Sometimes feeding/catching
one Redfish by sight casting or on a topwater lure where you can see
the explosion when it hit can be a trip maker especially if it is
your first time fishing without bait. When you are constantly
casting lures for the most part of the day it will also make you a
better caster and get more familiar with the rod/reel. Patience is
the key to catching fish on lures. Please select your fishing guide
and stick to the guide you like and he/she will learn your strengths
as well as weaknesses to better fit your fishing style. We as
fishing guides all want to see the kids catch fish so they become
addicted to fishing as they grow as opposed to out running around on
the streets. We work first hand with the kids to make sure they have
fun and make memories after all we are here to learn and to have a
good time. I will touch more on sight fishing in the near future.
Please keep me in mind when booking your next fishing trip. I can be

Has the weather the last few days shaped up very nicely. We have had
very light winds and the water is finally cleaning up. Trout are
still here and still eating piggy perch and croaker. Boat limits or
near boat limits are the norm if the weather cooperates. If it is
windy 20 trout are common. there is only a few weeks left of the 10
fish limit on trout. Don't miss out. Reds are in the flats eating
piggy perch and pin perch. I have not red fished in a while, but I
am being told the afternoon is the time to be red fishing. the next
two weeks should be awesome-if the weather continues to hold! Once
school starts there will certainly be less traffic on the water
making for some very pleasant and peaceful days.

Hello fellow fishermen. Fishing has remained steady with good numbers of
trout being caught on live croaker on days with light winds. Dagger and
Traylor island are holding fair amounts as well as the mid bay reefs in
Aransas bay. Upper slot sized reds are in the deeper sand pockets in
Redfish bay. Cut mullet, perch, and crab are the baits that they are
preferring. Lots of black drum being taken on dead shrimp and Gulp lures
in the back lakes of San Jose island with some good size to them. Don't
