Capt. David Dupnik bringing you the latest on flounder gigging in
the Coastal Bend. I have been fishing out of the Lydia Ann Channel,
the sheepshead are real big and the flounder are starting to get
bigger. I had a great trip this past Thursday night - we gigged our
limit of flounder and sheepshead. We are having some fast, incoming
tides early at night with them falling into early morning. That is
when I'm gigging most of my fish. If you are planning to spend
Spring Break on the coast, give me a call - I still have dates
available for that family fishing trip! Flounder gigging is FUN for
the whole family.

3-2-2014: Hello fellow fishermen. The
fishing action is heating up as conditions improve causing fish to follow
their spring pattern. Live bait is still scares due to the shrimp boats
still harvesting oysters. Live finger mullet is a good substitute when
live shrimp is not available. Dead shrimp on bottom has worked on drum but
will attract various other non desirable species. As the water temperature
warms, the bait fish will move up shallow, thus causing game fish to
follow. Where you find the bait, you will find the fish. Be safe out

3-2-2014: Hello To Everyone,
You getting ready for "SPRING BREAK"??? Well, it is just about
here! Have you contacted me to reserve a room, or a date to fish, or
both? If you will please let me advise you once it starts, "SPRING
BREAK", most everything is booked! There is still time, so please
give me a call. Red Fish are plentiful went you find them and Black
Drum are mixed in the schools. The trick is finding the school. Have
patience and keep casting shrimp because the next strike could be
the line screaming explosion we are looking for! On another note I
have been working on purchasing an Airboat for quite some
time..."the right Airboat". That acquisition should happen very
soon. I will, then, begin to offer trips for fishing, for Airboat
rides, and when Duck Hunting Season comes back around offer trips
for the "Cast and Blast" adventure!!! Please contact me and "Lets Go

3-2-2014: Hello Everybody, I am so
glad to see March arrive and hopefully a warming trend is here. Red
fishing will be the topic in the next two weeks and catching should
be awesome. Reds are eating shrimp, pin perch, and mullet. The reds
are in the shallow water and depending upon the tide level they will
remain shallow. March should see an increase in boat traffic along
with an increase in catching. Trout are here but more productive in
different bays with different structure. shell and mud will produce
nice boxes. Live shrimp, soft plastic and when the water temperature
rises top water have produced nice catches. If you are like me;
tired of this cold dreary weather, plan a trip to the coast, soak up
some sun, and spend a day with your favorite guide. You will be glad

still catching reds more than trout. We have been putting up with the
cold water temps ranging from the low 40s up to the high 50s. This is
causing the fish to relocate as the water temps change. The drop-offs
have been good on extreme low tides as long as the water temp was in
the 50deg. or higher. Trout have been hitting gulps worked slowly on
the flats when the water warms on sunny afternoons. There are a few
black drum in the deeper channels. Use peeled shrimp to catch them.

REDFISH, SPECKLED TROUT & BLACK DRUM
The fishing is gradually getting better as the sunlight and
warmer temps progress. Gold spoons and jerk baits have been good
while drifting. There have been some slow and tough days, but when
you find the fish they are eating. The black drum are showing up in
schools and dead shrimp are still working on them. Trout are showing
up in the cuts a with live shrimp when you can find them.

Hey folks - Fantastic Fishing &
Spring Break is the word for this update! Yes , it's almost
spring and time to go catch a big ol' fish....let's catch a
bunch of big ol' fish!!!!. And even though it is TIME for
prime fishing , you still have to know how and where to catch
them - that's where I come in! Reds and Trout are hitting on
shrimp and pin perch respectively using the free lining
technique. Also using live shrimp under a popping cork is
working great when you have live shrimp..... Remember, it's
not about just throwing out a line and hoping a fish will jump
on it. It is about what's on the hook and where you fish - I
know where the fish are because I fish almost every day of the
year so come one down and Let's Hook Em up this spring!!

What a week have had hot and cold in the same week. Black Drum
are finally showing-up in Ingleside and the Redfish and starting to
bite on live and dead shrimp using a popping cork as well as
free-lining live finger mullet. I have seen a lot of reds in the
flats around Mud Island....Spring is right around the corner

Call Capt. Tommy:
Hello everybody. I took out the Perkin's family yesterday and commenced
to whoop the redfish. I had two girls ages 8 & 10 and Dad . We fished the
flats using mullet and upon arrival of our first stop little Allie took
the first bent rod and did great . The redfish was about 21 inches . That
little girl sure enjoyed catching the red but when I asked her to hold the
fish for a photo she didn't want no part of that . We continued to catch
keepers and undersize . Had to move down one more time due to the falling
tide. The fish were heading slowly towards more suitable depth of water so
we too had to move to stay with them .We finished up the trip catching 7
legal size reds and around 15 undersize . Not bad !! I would like to
encourage all fishermen to use CIRCLE HOOKS . All you have to do is make
sure you keep your line relatively tight and when the fish pulls your rod
down just raise your rod and start reeling . You don't have to set the
hook . The circle hook is designed to hook the fish in the corner of the
mouth thus if the fish is undersize you can release the fish unharmed.
If you would like to fish with me - call me or send me a email!

2-15-2014: We have been catching
some monster drum up to 50 lbs and trout has improved. However
redfish and drum has been what we have been targeting. There has
been some nice keeper reds in the flats of redfish bay as we'll. The
large Redfish and drum have started to make there appearance to the
channel edges for breeding these or mostly catch and release as they
or legally too large to keep.. The reds and oversize drum do this
annually around February. Hope you're 2014 season is full of great
